Therapy Success Story - Deb

When a resident comes to our skilled nursing facility for rehabilitation, our goal is to give them the tools to be able to leave with a higher quality of life and to also give them the means for continued success once they return home. We love watching the hard work they put in and celebrating the victories with them!

Introducing a woman who is strong-willed and has the mindset of a true warrior, meet Deb. “When I first got to Hickory Ridge in October of 2021 I was very sick. My right leg and left arm looked bad. I felt no hope for my foreseeable future. I was told I would most likely never get out of my wheelchair and walk again. I was eventually put into a custom wheelchair. After two years of feeling no hope, I finally had to get my mind right. It took a while physically, emotionally, and mentally to prepare for the fight."



When it came to her care at Hickory Ridge, Deb shared, “The staff at Hickory Ridge have really treated me like family. Some STNAs consider me to be a mother figure, and for that, I am so grateful. The staff at Hickory Ridge helped me tremendously. They helped me gain some motivation before going to my physical therapy sessions. I had to keep telling myself that I wanted my two kids and granddaughter to see me get better! I had to defy what the doctors said about my mobility. I knew in my head that I had to get better. I started praying more. I kept turning to God, knowing with his guidance and my mindset that I was going to be okay."

"The physical therapists are excellent here," expressed Deb. "I wouldn’t be where I am today without Brad and Nicole. I remember the day when Nicole helped me stand for the first time in such a long time with the parallel bars. Nicole called to Brad and said, “She stood up, she stood up!” She was so amazed, and the look on her face was priceless. Every day I am progressing. I can dress myself now, and every day, I am able to do more and more. I want to thank all the nurses and STNAs for all of their encouraging words and for helping me fight the fight!”

Deb is an inspiration to many others who are working towards the goal of going home. We're glad she is satisfied with her progress, and we're so proud of her!
